LEGO® Serious Play® Workshop

In essence, a team is a number of people working together to achieve an objective. There needs to be consensus on what the objective is, and commitment to it for teamwork to work. And that’s what the LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® methodology is designed to do.

LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® is a team problem solving and decision making methodology that uses LEGO® pieces to get the participants to access their mental associations and translate them into 3D LEGO® metaphors which can then be communicated and collated into one model that represents their committed consensus about the decision or problem they face. The process involves the participants each building a LEGO® model of what it is being considered, and then they collate these individual LEGO® models into one.

The uses of the LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® methodology in the business world are many and varied. The common denominator is it can be used whenever each and every team member’s individual wisdom needs to be shared in order for the team to reach committed consensus. Common uses include strategic planning, organizational development issues like culture, values, vision and mission, conflict and change management and diversity management. Another use is idea generation when one is requiring innovation and creativity.

Every workshop is tailored to the client’s particular circumstances while the LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® methodology is strictly adhered to. As such, a facilitator leads the way and the length of a workshop can vary from half a day upwards. Interestingly, the process itself inculcates team spirit. So, the LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® methodology is team building with a particular business purpose in mind that encourages action because it instills committed consensus.

PS: I also didn’t study English at school. If the above doesn’t make sense contact me and I’ll do my best to explain it to you face to face.
